Born to the sikhs Gurcharan Singh and Daljit kaur on feb 27 1986 at Shahabad in Haryana, palying in the skirts of field at bay, nobody ever imagined that one day this guy will become the fastest drag flicker in the world of hockey. Yes it is our very own Sandeep Singh, the worlds fastest drag flicker and the ex captain of Indian hockey team.
The exceptional talent has been a keen player in the Indian team since his debut in January 2004 in sultan Azlan Shah cup. Also represented Air India, Denmark, Russia and Ukraine at several other at clubs levels. Once speaking about his performance he was very keen and eager to perform well at a coming national event.
Talking about his playing skills, he has inherited the same from his blood as his elder brother also plays as a field hockey player. Also regarded as the dread goal scorer in field hockey because his flick could hit the speed of 145km/h , could scratch the opponents game at any instance, such a lad he is. Once titled as the best defender, sandeep singh has acquired the mastery of Drag flick shot thus commands the respect as he is the penalty corner specialist.
Reviving from so many ups and down the ace flicker recalls the incident of accidental shoot after being shot and injured in an accidental fire in on a way to join the national team which were due to leave for the world cup. He was almost on the verge of being paralysed but not only his will but also the determination that waved his comeback to the national team nearly after two years
Sandeep Singh was also rewarded the Arjuna Award in 2010 for his brilliance in the game.Let us hope and pray that this ace player carry on the form and bring glory to the Indian hockey.
